How does Facebook Decide What Post To Show You?

Some updates for the News Feed Algorithm:

“Last Actor” – Facebook tracks the last 50 interactions you do on Facebook on a rolling basis and uses those as signals to rank your feed.

“Story Bumping” – i.e. if you miss something – ran out of time or just didn’t scroll far – Facebook may show you some posts that are new for you if others are still interacting with that content.

Summing up: 4 points, affecting your rank in news feed:

  1. User’s past interactions with the author;
  2. User’s past interactions with the post type;
  3. Reactions from other users for the particular post;
  4. Amount of complaints or negative feedback on that post.

But frankly speaking most of your free attempts will not bring much, without payable support unless you already have deeply involved, passionate, built up fan base. Just look at the numbers:

  • There are over 1.23 billion monthly active Facebook users worldwide (with 17% each year growth);
  • 1.15 billion monthly active mobile Facebook users worldwide
  • Photo uploads total 300 million per day;
  • Every 60 seconds on Facebook: 510,000 comments are posted, 293,000 statuses are updated, and 136,000 photos are uploaded;
  • 4.75 billion pieces of content shared daily (2013!!! year increase 94% from 2012)

What does it mean for you? That all of them already getting news! Every time someone visits News Feed there are on average 1,500 potential stories from friends, people they follow and Pages for them to see!!!

If you understood it just now – Facebook took needed actions a few years ago)) They made an interesting updates on 2013 – setting limits to your reach – according to research companies to 2-5%, according to Facebook statistic to 16%!

The only thing you left – is to use their marketing programs

Before taking any actions ask yourself a few questions:

  • do you really need this?

  • will you get any profit from this?

  • will the outcome overlap all the investments? TIME

If you suddenly understood, that all your need – is to have the company page – just to be represented on the most popular Social Media Platform – Facebook – then that’s perfect! In fact – only small percent of companies really need this! It’s just their SM manager’s persuasion! Unless you are using your FB page instead of the site (some companies still do), or you are a FB shop!

In case you are sure you want to extend your presence on the biggest social network – go and read this post: Facebook tips for post writing and publishing
